This home study was recorded at a recent 2-day professional workshop.  Professionals who listen to the tapes or CD’s, read the accompanying materials, and pass the post-test will receive 13 hours CE/CME credit**. 

Content and Format

The home study is available on CD. Each kit contains 13 CD’s, all slides and other course materials used at the live workshop, a post-test, and complete instructions. 

Course Description

Cognitive Interpersonal Therapy (CIT) is a new treatment developed by Dr. Burns to help patients deal with anger, resolve conflicts, and develop more satisfying relationships.  You will learn this basic, flexible approach, which can be used to help patients with a wide variety of relationship problems.

You will also learn strategies for dealing with angry patients who blame others and resist change, as well as paradoxical methods to help boost motivation and empower the patient

Target Audience and Course Level

This educational activity is intended for the use of professionals and advanced students, and is not appropriate for general audiences. It is an advanced clinical training presented at a post-graduate level.  Target audience includes social workers, psychologists, physicians, counselors, physicians and other healthcare professionals, as well as advanced students in these professions, professionals who work in related fields, and others with a serious interest in the course topic. Its goal is to enhance the knowledge and/or competence of attendees, as well as increase the quality of patient care.

Course Objectives

After completing this home study, you will be better able to:

  • Measure marital satisfaction, depression, anxiety, anger and the quality of the therapeutic alliance
  • Be better able to integrate Cognitive Interpersonal Therapy (CIT) with your own
     spiritual beliefs.
  • Describe crucial differences between the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Interpersonal Therapy (CIT).
  • Develop a meaningful therapeutic agenda with patients with personal relationship problems
  • Deal with individuals who resist intimacy and sabotage their relationships.
  • Resolve your own relationship problems -- with patients, colleagues, or family members
